The past three months have been a significant period of learning for me. I can observe a profound transformation between my prior animations and my most recent one. I adopted a novel working approach that involved tracing shots from a 3D model. In this animation, the background itself assumed a character-like role, prompting me to invest considerable attention in its execution. Regrettably, I fell short of achieving the exact ambiance I had envisioned. To address this, I devised a color palette intended to enhance the prominence of the background. After engaging in a series of trial-and-error attempts, I eventually achieved success in this endeavor. Nonetheless, a sense of incompleteness persisted.
In response, I experimented with various brushes to imbue the scenes with a watercolor-like texture. Drawing inspiration from beloved cartoons such as Titoef, I honed my ability to elevate the visual quality. As I progressively introduced finer details such as cracks, brushstrokes, shadows, and patches onto the walls, the overall composition aligned more closely with my original vision.
A notable milestone was my inaugural experience in animating dialogues, a challenge compounded by the complexity of rendering children’s dialogues as a novice. During voice actor recordings, the differing energies perplexed me, prompting me to investigate the cause of this discrepancy. Subsequently, I recognized that distinct approaches were required: animating some frames at threes, others at twos, and some at ones, to capture the unique enthusiasm and attributes of each voice actor. This methodology not only brought out individual character traits but also enhanced my proficiency in digital drawing through distinctive character designs and exaggerated expressions.
A breakthrough occurred as I delved into the art of compositing scenes using only two colors, purple and orange. After several iterations, I mastered the technique to accentuate the interaction between the flowing lava and the background elements.
I owe a debt of gratitude to my teammate Hani, whose assistance enabled me to grasp the intricacies of creating and rendering 3D models using Sketchup. Furthermore, I acquired insights into manipulating the model to achieve specific exaggerated shots.
Given the extended duration of the project, succumbing to distractions and laziness posed a tangible risk. However, through guidance from my professor, I acquired proficiency in devising both a Pipeline chart and a Gantt chart. These tools empowered me to maintain a disciplined schedule and a clear grasp of time allocation throughout the project.
